This course provides a book-by-book survey of the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament, introducing students to their historical background, literary structure, major contents, special features, hermeneutical keys, and theological themes. Students will study the Old Testament as Christian Scripture and as the foundational witness to God’s self-revelation, covenant relationship with His people, redemptive purpose, moral will, wisdom for life, prophetic hope, and promise of fulfillment in Christ. Special attention is given to creation, covenant, exodus, law, worship, kingship, wisdom, exile, restoration, messianic hope, and the mission of God. The course equips students to read, interpret, teach, and apply the Old Testament faithfully for Christian discipleship, ministry, worship, preaching, and mission.
